Designer Report: Inside BDNY

Boutique Design New York, commonly known as BDNY is an event our team looks forward to exhibiting at each year. Taking place in the heart of New York City, BDNY brings designers, architects, purchasing agents, hoteliers, owners, and developers together with innovative interior design manufacturers. It is an event full of creativity that celebrates the latest design trends, the visionaries and creators using them, and the future of the hospitality space and beyond.

As attendees at the 2024 BDNY show, the Koroseal design team was elated to be a part of its curated cumulation of creativity. Now, we are eager to share with you some of the beautiful, inspiring trends on the horizon. Below are some highlights that the Koroseal Design Team is most excited about!

Trends we LOVE!

Walking the showroom floor, our team was mesmerized by the beautiful articulations of upcoming trends. From new colors, to new materials and finishes, here are some of our favorites!

Vibrant & Soothing Shades

Room scenes and products played with color, showcasing vibrant saturation and soothing warm tone neutrals.

We observed the vibrance of green with influences of blue, and the neutral tones of olive and khaki. Together, these colors set the stage for a sense of transition. While blue itself was still present in deep shaded navy and pigmented cobalt, the color theme of note was soft, pale, cloud-like tones of blue and lavender; creating a backdrop reminiscent of an outdoor oasis of air.

From alabaster to sable, neutral shades of soft beige created an environment of warmth and comfort. The honey and red tans of wood beautifully complemented the earthly hues of terracotta, rust, and rosy to beet reds. Another look we loved was the pairing of golden shades of yellow with burnished metals and varying shades of botanic green. The look was elevated even further with accents of soft coral and orange - simply stunning.

Woods, Metals, & Tactile finishes

The warmer tones of wood were omnipresent, often serving as a backdrop to help deep tones deliver a stronger punch of color. Wood elements were crafted into dimensional layouts of shadow and highlight, as well as leveraged throughout furniture pieces. Metallic flashes of gold shimmered in elements of lighting, metal accessories, and both wood and soft upholstery.

The dramatic details featured in metal lighting options also created reflective movement above and below, giving spaces added personality. Textural fabrics were used to help support the cozy, warm, inviting spaces that were created - using fabrics like white and cream boucle and deep hued velvets, tactile to the touch. We even saw soft-touch materials incorporated into outdoor dining displays, appearing in interesting new shapes and pigmented color coated surfaces.

We also can’t forget one of our favorite items to check out - wall finishes! Contrasts in wall finishes were beautifully done with large scale florals and Mediterranean styles, or dull masonry techniques. The contrasts supported the design of these spaces to feel as if they had grown from the foliage and natural grasses, similar to the Koroseal booth’s Greenhouse Gathering Window & Arch by Arte.

Wellness, Nature, & Community

Throughout the showcase, we witnessed experiential themes blending wellness and community, as well as products that focused on sustainability and authenticity. From connecting with nature through fabulous “glamping” with embellished swings, tented chandeliers, and accessories; to outdoor organic carpeted footpaths created from post-manufacturing waste, connecting with nature was imminent. Beautiful honeycomb designs, organic wovens, and basketweaves were featured in products and related back to the outdoors.

Masterfully crafted accessories helped complete the looks, such as dinnerware in mystical patterns and earthly finishes. We saw mid-century influences, as well as simple clean lines and low curves which were reminiscent of past eras. Other design elements, like undulating columns and modern deco geometric forms, added past influence to casual settings.

River Valley by Koroseal

Trend: Woods, Metals, & Tactile Finishes
