Meet the Creator: Jacob Claycomb

Printing Manager // Production Team Leader

Each wallcovering we produce requires a diverse team of creators from start to finish. Making customers’ dreams a reality literally comes to fruition at the printing press, and the final products we see are a direct result of the dedicated team we have working behind the scenes. As Koroseal’s Print Manager, Jacob Claycomb leads his team to ensure beauty, authenticity, and precision in every wallcovering we produce at our main facility in Louisville. While managing the print production of both digital and manufactured wallcoverings, Jacob leverages his unrelenting passions of teamwork and collaboration to produce great products for our customers.

Jacob’s Creator Journey

From a young age, Jacob understood the importance of a strong team, and how seamless collaboration yields positive results. Jacob’s innate sense of teamwork and natural comfort in leading began in his youth. Growing up in Louisville, Jacob spent much of his free time at the ball fields, playing sports and enjoying time with his teammates and coaches. Over time, his involvement in sports grew both as a player and a coach. It continued to bring him joy, and eventually manifested into a future of playing college athletics and focusing his education in sports and business management.

After college, Jacob built his leadership skills, through various management positions, including working with teams of diverse backgrounds. From leading workers in the transportation field, to managing a distribution center with inclusive teams consisting of 50% of workers with disabilities, Jacob learned how to accommodate different learning styles, making him a strong and empathetic leader.

Throughout his almost nine years at Koroseal, Jacob has held various management roles throughout the Louisville facility, building relationships across the organization, and making an impact on the products we provide. Jacob started as a Logistics Supervisor, accepted additional responsibilities as a Warehouse Manager, and was then promoted to Digital Print Manager. Working in the Digital Department provided Jacob his first glimpse into the production side of Koroseal, where he quickly learned it was a perfect fit for his desire to make an impact, improving teams and our end products. Today, he uses these skills at our Louisville Facility Print Manager, and resides in Louisville with his wife and two children.

There’s No “I” in Team

As Print Manager, Jacob supports strong collaboration across Koroseal’s entire organization. From supporting the sales team and coordinating with designers in delivering on client needs, to ensuring quality control and print accuracy with the printing teams, Jacob collaborates with almost all Koroseal departments. The job can be rigorous, running a facility that operates 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. Jacob meets with all three of the plants’ shift crews, ensuring coordination amongst his team. No two days are the same, and obstacles often present themselves. However, under Jacob’s selfless leadership, new challenges are always accepted.

In talking with Jacob, you will often find him praising others - a true “coach” at heart. Whether the team is searching for a way to ensure repeatability and consistency on the printing press for a large manufactured wallcovering, or creating an entirely new work of art for a digitally printed masterpiece, Jacob works with his team to find a solution. His favorite part of the job is working alongside his fellow employees.

“The collaboration and teamwork across multiple departments to achieve a common goal is unlike any other - it’s the true definition of teamwork.”

Jacob’s passion for coaching others extends beyond the Koroseal printing facility. He continues helping others thrive on and off the printing press floor, not only as a valued Print Manager, but also as an active community coach for youth rec teams, highschools, and college athletes.

"It was only natural for me to step into coaching and leadership roles, both professionally and in my community. Athletics helped shape me into the leader that I am today, and by coaching athletes of all ages I know that I can give back and help others experience the same benefits."

A strong leader is not only able to connect with his team, but also help coach them to produce better results. Through his motivating leadership, Jacob supports ongoing growth and collaboration amongst our cross-functional teams every day.

Creating with Jacob

We met with Jacob to learn more about his approach and inspiration. See what else he had to say!

What does Customer Service mean to you?

Jacob: Going above and beyond, and determining how I can help you get there. For the printing team, our customers are also our sales reps, design teams, and peers. We are all working together to achieve one common goal - bringing the Koroseal customer’s vision to reality.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Jacob: The people. Koroseal’s greatest asset is its employees at every level of the organization. Early in my career at Koroseal, some of our executive leadership emphasized that the significance of family is something that we all value and cherish here. It was a point in my career that I’ll never forget, it was a moment that shaped me into the leader that I am today.

What is a non-design related hobby or interest that fuels your creativity?

Jacob: Outside of work you will typically find me with my family, or coaching. Having two young kids active in youth sports since they could walk, I tend to find myself coaching everything - basketball, soccer, t-ball, and football. I also love sharing the outdoors with my kids, doing activities like hunting and fishing. Also, traveling with my family and experiencing new destinations - like scuba diving throughout the Caribbean.

What is a memorable piece of advice you have received that you find inspiring?

Jacob: In college, my head football coach Dean Hood worked to instill core values that I still find myself living by today. One of the most impactful values he taught me was to “never sacrifice what you want the most for what you want at the moment” This is a quote that has helped shape the man, husband, father, and leader that I am today. The more you reflect on this quote the more instances that you find it relevant in all aspects of life.

What is your favorite Koroseal product?

Jacob: Koroseal’s digital printing options. The possibilities are endless. I’ve seen us do some incredible things. It’s also impressive how our teams come together to create the customer’s vision.

Describe a favorite project or task that allowed you to help bring a customer’s dream to life

Jacob: There’s a lot. We did a phenomenal project for a popular casino in Las Vegas. It was a digital printing project, and was very unique. I saw the project from concept through completion. At the start, it was difficult to envision the design coming to life in print execution; but when we produced the final product, I was blown away by how awesome it looked, and how the team worked together to accomplish it.
