Designer Report: 2026-2027 Trend Forecast

The Koroseal team is excited to share its 5th Annual Trend Forecast! This year, our Design Team has created trend concepts that celebrate complexities and contradictions. In our 2026-2027 Fractured Reality Trend Forecast, we explore the fact and fiction of both authenticity and intentionality through four trend stories. Delving into each of the four trends, we also share corresponding curated palettes, and key colors to help you get started in leveraging these concepts in your own designs.

Behind the Design: Social Drivers

Throughout the year, our Design Team completes extensive research on trending colors, styles, fashion, beauty, technology, demographics, architecture, culture, and interior design. We travel to tradeshows across the country, participate in design meetings, and network across our industries.

Based on this year’s findings, the team has identified four main drivers of the 2026-2027 design trends, all rooted in the macro trend of Truth.

Sustainability: Today, we can be inundated with sustainable messaging. It often takes determination and grit to find the truth about sustainable practices and claims. Human desires to reconnect and find the truth around sustainable practices are fed through the concepts of conscious consumption, truth-washing, and eco-accountability.
Wellness: Wellness encompasses mental, physical and environmental factors. From holistic practices to neuroinclusivity, in today’s world, we hope to approach our well-being in a new light, considering both the pulse of collective people and the planet.
Technology: After technology overload and overstimulation, mindsets are shifting from technology-focused, to escaping the screens. Technology in large doses is driving distraction and disconnection, creating a new focus on building stronger connections, utilizing less tech.
Economy: Designers need to adapt to our slowing economy. The new reality is that designs need to be long-lasting. The current state encourages durability, timeless designs and materials, and fosters innovative solutions to deliver timely value.

2026-2027 Trend Forecast: Fractured Reality

Our world is increasingly complex. As we continue to navigate uncertainty, it places a compelling emphasis on finding truth. Relating to design trends, truth signifies a shift toward building genuine connection with users to foster trust. Today, people are seeking experiences and spaces that feel authentic and intentional, craving the ultimate sense of comfort found in truth.

Fractured Reality can mean many things; but it mostly correlates to the idea that broken things can be repaired, and that sometimes putting the pieces back together is where lessons are learned, and beauty is found.

It also relates to the idea that truth can be broken into pieces from stressors or forces exceeding the idea’s or material's strength. This fracture, break, or disruption in the continuity of any material, concept, or social structure is not always the end - it can sometimes be the beginning.

Our Fractured Reality Trend Forecast is centered around the evolving nature of truth in a world of increasing complexity and polarization. Each social driver connects to one of this year’s trend stories - Reconnect embodies sustainability, Pulse represents wellness, Shifted correlates to technology, and Control correlates to economy. The four trend stories are “fractures,” each relating to the social drivers, and ultimately tying back to the macro concept of truth.

What is Reconnect?

Reconnect is about awakening to what truly matters - both in our connection to the environment, and to ourselves. It reflects a growing desire to slow down, seek authenticity, and embrace intentional living. This trend inspires mindfulness and sustainability, emphasizing materials and practices that honor longevity, transparency, and holistic responsibility. Reconnect invites us to pause, consider the impact of our choices, and foster deeper connections with our surroundings.

In design, Reconnect is expressed through nature-inspired motifs, biomorphic forms, and subtle imperfections that reflect beauty of the natural world. Soft earth tones, plant greens, sky blues, and mineral neutrals create calming, restorative environments, while layered textures and dimensional embossing evoke tactility, longevity, and quality. Patterns that draw from local ecosystems, cultural textiles, and timeless geometry foster connection, inclusivity, and a sense of trust.

What is Pulse?

Pulse reflects a conscious evolution to holistic wellness in a world that often feels fragmented and overwhelming. It emphasizes the interconnections of mental, physical, social, and environmental well-being - guiding individuals to seek long-term vitality, rather than quick fixes. This trend champions spaces, products, and experiences that nurture resilience, purpose and belonging. Pulse integrates wellness into daily life, balancing personal intervention with systemic understanding, and inspiring designs that promote health, comfort, and emotional equilibrium across all aspects of life.

Designs inspired by Pulse integrate natural materials like wood, woven fibers, bamboo, and grasses, alongside biomorphic forms and fractal patterns that echo nature’s rhythms. Spaces often blur the line between interior and exterior - incorporating vegetation, outdoor views, and sensory textures. Lighting, acoustics, and predictable patterns provide reassurance and calm; while color palettes favor grounded neutrals, soft calming hues, and neuro-friendly tones, accented with vibrant colors to energize collaboration and focus.

What is Shifted?

In a world where the digital and physical blur, Shifted captures the tension between overstimulations and the desire to escape. As constant connectivity fuels distraction, people seek outlets that embrace fantasy, humor, and heightened emotion. This trend reflects a collective desire to re-enchant the everyday. Surrealism, maximalism, and playfulness reclaim joy from digital fatigue. Design becomes a form of rebellion against monotony, using color, texture, and form to awake curiosity and spark imagination.

Designs under Shifted mix structure and spontaneity - layered patterns, warped geometrics, and dazzling surfaces that feel both digital and dreamlike. The palette is bold and electric: cobalt and magenta infuse depth and drama; neon yellow greens and glowing golds cultivate pulsing energy; soft pinks and purples add contrast and fantasy; and charcoal grounds it all with edge and sophistication. Together, these hues create an immersive, visual rhythm that celebrates exaggeration, confidence, and emotional release. Control explores the truth in today’s economy, highlighting how strategic, value-driven decisions can provide stability. From Sustainable Luxury to Vibecession and spaving, designers are finding ways to create durability, affordability, and joy while navigating economic anxiety. Economic realities shape design choices: slower growth econorages durable, timeless materials, and classic palettes; while growing economies allow more elaborate, innovative projects. Designers must balance functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics, adapting to deliver value for users, owners, communities, and the planet.

Control-inspired interiors create spaces that feel stable, intentional, and resilient in uncertain times. Neutral foundations like rich browns, soft pastel hues, and muted sands provide grounding, while subtle accent tones - sage green, deep terracotta, and mineral blues - add warmth, depth, and quiet sophistication. Patterns are restrained and classic, featuring small-scale geometry, woven textures, or light embossing. They contain tactical interest without feeling trendy or fleeting. This approach emphasizes value-driven decisions. Every choice communicates intentionality and thoughtfulness, with designs cultivating comfort, confidence, and calm - all while remaining timeless, elegant, and sustainably-minded.
