About the Creator

Claudia Estaba Goodsell | Designer at AE Urbia

Claudia E. Goodsell is an interior and architectural designer based in Utah, originally from Venezuela. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Universidad José Antonio Páez. Early in her career, she worked in residential design before transitioning into commercial interiors and project management.

Now working across workplace, hospitality, retail, mixed-use, and tenant improvement environments, Claudia leads projects from concept through construction, combining thoughtful design with technical coordination to create spaces that feel intentional, functional, and connected to the people using them.

Outside of design, she loves hiking, painting, and spending time with family and friends.

Behind the Design

Stone Veil began with a simple thought: if I could put my name into a design, what would it look like? This felt like an opportunity to create something deeply personal, a design that could carry part of my story into a wallcovering.

As a designer, I care deeply about creating spaces for people, but so much of my inspiration comes from nature and the way organic elements shape emotion, texture, and atmosphere.

Growing up in Venezuela surrounded by mountains, dense landscapes, and the world’s tallest waterfall fading into a soft “veil” of mist left a lasting impression on me. After moving to Utah, I found inspiration again through deserts, canyons, erosion patterns, and stone formations shaped by water over time. The landscapes felt completely different, yet somehow connected through texture, layering, and movement.

That’s where both worlds collided: Stone +Veil.

The design became an exploration of vertical movement, mineral staining, erosion, and softness. Just like the history of the planet printed onto surfaces, then translated into a refined architectural pattern.

One of the main intentions behind the design was versatility: creating something calm and grounded that could live across many different environments while still feeling unique and expressive. The vertical composition gives the design structure and rhythm, while the texture introduces movement and depth. Something especially important to me because flexibility and adaptation have played such a large role in my own personal growth and journey. The process itself became an important part of the concept, and I knew I needed to start by hand rather than digitally. The design evolved through physical experimentation and painting studies, eventually using a tile almost like a canvas to begin sketching and layering patterns by hand. Looking closely at these studies started revealing exactly what I was searching for: soft movement, layered texture, and the feeling of erosion flowing through stone. The close-up studies became especially important, revealing textures and organic details that later informed the refined surface of Stone Veil. Allowing imperfections and material expression to guide the process became an essential part of the design’s identity.

"A special thank you to Crystal Golden and the entire Koroseal team for this wonderful opportunity, and to AE Urbia Architects and Engineers, as well as my family and friends, for all their support, and everyone who voted. Thank you so much for the incredible encouragement and support throughout this process."

What’s Next?

As the winner of our Calling All Creators contest, Claudia will collaborate with the Koroseal design team to develop a new digital wallcovering inspired by her winning submission. From refining the artwork to exploring scale, texture, and color, our team is excited to help bring her vision to life.
