Koroseal’s 2026-2027 Design Trend Forecast, Fractured Reality, explores the overarching trend of authentic and intentional spaces through four trend stories. This month, we are taking a closer look at Shifted - a trend story that reflects on our relationship with technology, and the resulting overstimulation of a highly digital world competing with the desire to escape.

Incorporating Shifted into Design

As technology advances at an accelerating rate, people are re-evaluating the pros and cons of technological evolution. Constant connectivity is driving a stronger desire for us to detach, and digitally detox.

When designing with Shifted, we create experiential spaces that re-enchant the everyday. Consider influences of surrealism and playfulness to evoke joy as an escape from digital fatigue.

Designs that reflect the Shifted trend mix structure and spontaneity. Through layered patterns, warped geometrics, and dreamlike surfaces, the style feels both digital and dreamlike. The incorporation of shimmering materials and distorted shapes brings to light the competing paths of chaos and control.

Shifted expressions also utilize a bold and electric color palette. Cobalt and magenta infuse depth and drama; neon yellow greens and glowing golds cultivate pulsing energy; soft pinks and purples add contrast and fantasy; and charcoal greys evoke edge and sophistication amongst a sense of playfulness.
